The inspiration for this painting was a book I chanced upon called The Last Horsemen by Charles Bowden, which charts a year at Sillywrea farm, Britain's only horse-powered farm, and the lives of the lovely John and Maggie Dodd, and David, Frances and Richard Wise.
Sadly, upon completion of the painting, I discovered that John, 'the Last Horseman' had died in 2020.
WELCOME. I have been an ardent Tolkien admirer from my first reading of The Lord of the Rings, and The Hobbit back in the early 70s. And although I have pursued other artwork subjects over the years, the love of illustrating Tolkien, especially the aforementioned books, has never deserted me and has become an increasing passion.
